Biofuels and Synfuels
Biofuel is solid, liquid, or gas fuel consisting of, or derived from biomass. The goal of biofuel development is to reduce the greenhouse gasses typically generated by the widespread use of fossil fuels. As the use of biofuels expands, it is becoming more and more popular as an additive or replacement for automotive tranportation fuels. And because biofuels are generated from easily replenishable natural resources, their supply is almost limitless. Common biofuel sources include: plants and vegetables, sugars, starches, animal fats, alcohol, algae, wood chips, and even recycled cooking oil. Some companies and organizations in Jefferson County, Colorado have taken an interest in biofuels and are exploring their full potential. |
